Goodies Riddim – Various Artists

The Goodies Riddim comes in with a jumpy, radio-friendly dancehall pulse that feels more playful than hard-edged, the sort of 2006 juggling that keeps the groove light while the voices do the heavy lifting. The line-up is small and neatly split between solo and duo cuts: Ash-I opens with “Shake Your Body, ” Emma and Ricky Sprakett split the money-minded “Money” from the title tune in both edit and full versions, and Shineye closes with “Goodies Version, ” which feels like the most stripped-back take on the riddim. That back-and-forth between the vocal cuts gives the project a tidy little flow, but it’s the Ricky Sprakett and Emma combination that really anchors it, especially on the straight “Goodies” cut, where the hook lands clean and leaves the riddim doing exactly what it came to do.
