GALANG RIDDIM PROMO – SCOTCH BONNET 2016

A lean, hard-edged piece of modern dancehall, Galang rides on a stripped-down ragga pulse with heavy low end and plenty of open space for the vocal to cut through. Scotch Bonnet kept it tight in 2016: just the Parly B cut and the instrumental riddim, each running about three minutes, so there’s no wasted movement here. The Danny T and Tradesman production has that tense, futuristic feel they were chasing on their early 7-inch work, with the beat hanging back just enough to let the bass do the talking. Parly B is the clear centre of gravity, though, and his clipped, road-ready delivery on “Galang” gives the release its hook. It’s the kind of single that feels made for a sound system, with the remix snapping into place first and the raw riddim version left to echo after it.
