Freedoom – Remir 2009
Freedoom – Remir Overview
Back in 2019, roots reggae fans were still talking about a special dub cut from the Freedoom riddim. This recording gave young singers a real chance to show their voices and message. The dub version was made for sound system culture. It had deep bass, echo, and space, letting selectors and DJs play it loud and clear at dances and festivals. The riddim came from 2009, but the dub cut made it new again for a new crowd. The producer behind this project was Remir, who is known for his careful touch on the mixing board. Remir gave the riddim a meditative, steady feel, but with enough fire to keep people moving. He made sure the music stayed true to roots reggae, with a message and a heavy groove. Three main artists stood out on this release. Gyptian, already famous for his hit "Hold Yuh," brought his song "Trying" to the riddim. His smooth voice and heartfelt lyrics made it a favorite. Ginjah, who is respected for songs like "Never Lost My Way," added "Freedoom," a tune with strong social commentary. Ginjah’s style fit perfectly with the roots sound. There were also tracks from Unknown Artist, including "Love," "Is Only About You," "You Are," and "Unknown." These songs added different moods and voices to the riddim. Nobody knew who the singer was, but the tracks became popular with sound system selectors. Looking back, this dub cut is remembered for giving young voices a platform and bringing roots reggae to new ears.
