Independent Works leaned into a lean roots set here, not a big crossover play, and that’s part of the charm of Freedom Fire Riddim. Issued in August 2014 as a six-track release, it runs on a brisk one-drop pulse with enough heat in the bass and drums to keep the message tunes moving without crowding them. Busy Signal’s “Nah Follow Dem” gives the project its sharpest name value, while Exco Levi’s “Love Uself” and R. C. ’s “Word Of The People” keep the conscious edge front and centre. Shuga’s “Freedom” and Torch’s “Blazing” carry that same militant lift, and the closing instrumental/dub version underlines how tightly the riddim is cut: spare, propulsive, and built to let the groove speak for itself.
