Feelings Riddim (2010) – Don Corleon Records

Don Corleon’s Feelings Riddim landed in 2010 as one of those late-2000s rootsy juggling projects that traded in warmth instead of flash. Donovan Bennett, better known as Don Corleon, was already deep into the rhythm-game by then, and this one sits comfortably beside the clean, vocal-heavy productions that made his name across reggae and dancehall. The release was handled through Don Corleon Records and surfaced as a digital-first set before any talk of vinyl.

The instrumental has a soft, emotional pulse rather than a hard dancehall stomp. It feels spacious and melodic, with a smooth one-drop sway that leaves room for singers to stretch out longing, doubt, and breakup talk. That mood is exactly what gives the project shape: the same bed can hold a prayer, a confession, or a late-night reconsideration without ever feeling cluttered.

The voice cast is strong and varied. Ce’Cile’s Home Tonight brings a woman’s perspective with bite and vulnerability. Wayne Marshall’s I Need To Know and Voicemail’s Say A Prayer give the riddim two different shades of uncertainty, while Pressure’s Coming Right Back and Professor’s Be Careful keep the emotional angle direct. Tarrus Riley’s Nobody Knows, Jah Cure’s self-titled cut, and Gentleman’s Lonely Days push the riddim deepest into lovers-rock and roots territory. Kris Kelli’s Moving On, with Don Corleon on the cut, gives the project a personal edge, while Denyque and Tifa add more feminine weight to the set.
