Yellow Moon Records’ Episodes Riddim lands in the sweet spot between roots warmth and contemporary polish, with DJ Sunshine steering the project from the producer’s chair. Yellow Moon is the reggae and dancehall imprint founded by Katrina “DJ Sunshine” Irons, and by 2018 she had already built a catalogue of sound-system-minded releases that travel comfortably between singers, singjays, and heavier culture cuts. Episodes fits that lane neatly, arriving in January 2018 as a five-track digital EP.

The riddim itself moves with a laid-back one-drop pulse and a clean, uncluttered mix that leaves plenty of room for melody. It has that modern roots sheen without sanding off the grit, which lets the voices do the heavy lifting. Tarrus Riley opens the door with “Ah Me And Jah, ” his smooth, commanding tenor giving the tune its spiritual center. Etana’s “Green Card” brings a richer, more reflective edge, her voice sitting high and clear over the groove. Richie Spice’s “Revelation” is the most direct culture statement in the set, pushing that familiar conscious weight he has carried through much of his catalog. I-Octane’s “Why Should I” adds a slightly more streetwise pulse, while Rage’s “I Am Not A Lonely Girl” gives the riddim a broader emotional range.

What makes Episodes work is the balance. It is not trying to overwhelm with tricks or volume; it leaves the rhythm open enough for each singer to shape the mood.
