EMPRESS RIDDIM produced by GOLDEN HOUSE / JET STAR MUSIC 1999
Empress Overview
In 1999, the Empress Riddim arrived and quickly became a favorite for dancehall selectors. The journey started in the studio, where the sound engineer carefully crafted a blend of hard-hitting drums and sharp melodies. The producer behind the project, GOLDEN HOUSE / JET STAR MUSIC, was already well-known for pushing dancehall forward. Jet Star Music, in particular, had a long history of releasing some of the UK’s most influential reggae and dancehall compilations, including the famous “Reggae Hits” series. The Empress Riddim brought together a powerful lineup of artists. Capleton, already established with hits like “Tour” and known for his energetic delivery, voiced “Dem Bless” over the riddim, giving it a fiery edge. Pank I added his own flavor with “The Gideon,” while Vylmark Hamilton showed his range on two tracks: “When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman” and “Bad Man Sitten.” Each track gave selectors new fire for their dancehall sets. Black Coolie’s “Reaction” and Emanuel Stain’s “Everything Is Everything” rounded out the project, bringing different styles and voices to the riddim. The combination of these artists and the sharp production made Empress Riddim one of the bashment highlights of 1999. Even now, the riddim stands out for its fresh sound and the way it captured the energy of the dancehall at the time. For fans and selectors alike, Empress Riddim remains a classic moment in dancehall history.
