Drop Off Riddim – X Ray Records

X Ray Records kept Drop Off Riddim lean in 2012, and that sparseness gives the whole thing a sharp, pressure-cooker feel. Da’Ville’s “Deh Pan Mi Mind” sits right at the center of it, with his melodic pull cutting against Max Element’s rougher dancehall edge on “How Yuh Wine It So, ” then the pair lock in together on “Badman Style” for the closest thing here to a big hook tune. It’s only three cuts, which makes the release feel more like a quick session than a full showcase, but that also means there’s no dead weight anywhere. A small, hard little dancehall set, with Daville doing the heaviest lifting.
