Double Trouble Riddim (2020) – Trouble Mekka Music

Trouble Mekka Music came through with Double Trouble Riddim in January 2020, a modern dancehall juggling anchored by a dark, mid-tempo bounce and a stripped, DJ-ready instrumental that leaves plenty of room for the voicings. The project runs with clear and radio edits for several cuts, which gives it that sound system practicality while keeping the core groove intact.

Jahvillani sets the tone on Clear the Way, bringing the kind of streetwise confidence and melodic phrasing that has made him one of the sharper voices out of Jamaica’s new school. Rygin King’s Larger Than Life adds a smoother edge and a more emotive run, which sits nicely against the riddim’s weight. Chronic Law’s Eiffel is the grittiest moment in the bunch, all clipped delivery and pressure, while Chan Dizzy’s Guide the Way brings a more singjay feel and a bit more lift. Kash’s Lead Dem keeps the energy forward-moving and militant.

The wider cast fills out the session with Chi Ching Ching, Shane E, Trance 1Gov and Lahba, but the riddim really works because it gives both established names and lesser-spotlit voices the same stern framework. Trouble Mekka Music, with Wayne Staple credited behind the production, has a sound here that favors heavy bass, clean drum programming and a menacing pulse rather than overworked arrangement. Double Trouble feels like one of those early-2020 dancehall sets made for juggling, with the instrumental doing as much talking as the singers.
