Dark Institute Riddim – Y-Not Productions

Y-Not Productions keeps Dark Institute Riddim tight and compact, a 2014 dancehall set that runs with just four vocal cuts and an instrumental, all of them moving on the same lean, springy groove. Caldhino opens with “No Peace, ” Razor pushes the rougher edge on “Mad A Road, ” and Slyter LC’s “Push It” keeps the pressure on, but the ear tends to land on Milli Chab and Mark Swagger’s “Money Haffi Mek, ” which gives the project its clearest street-level tension. The instrumental is credited to Sense’High J, which fits the kind of stripped-down, no-frills riddim craft Y-Not was working with at the time. It’s a short release, but the sequencing keeps the mood locked in and leaves “Money Haffi Mek” as the cut that hangs around after the last pull-up.
