The lineup keeps it lean: Akil’s “Real Killa, ” the trio cut “Insidious” from Pencil, Maestro and Taurus, plus Rave-A-Night’s “Don’T Cross” and Skylyne’s “Tuff Chat. ” The production leans on a clipped, minimalist pulse rather than big melodic hooks, which leaves plenty of room for the voicing and the warning-shot lyrics to do the work. Sycka’s instrumental version makes the pattern even clearer, with a taut drum step, dry snares and a heavy bass line that stays tucked underneath the vocals instead of chasing them.
