Back in 2011, the Christmas Riddim yard session tape started its journey in a small Kingston studio. The producer, known as VARIOUS ARTISTS, has always been about bringing different voices together on one beat. VARIOUS ARTISTS is not a single person, but a collective known for shaping dancehall tapes that move through the streets and into parties. Their tapes have found their way onto streaming platforms, keeping the raw dancehall energy alive for new listeners. On this session, the real magic happened behind the mixing board. The mixing board king for the project was a local legend in the scene, making sure every vocal and drum hit had the right punch. He kept the energy high, balancing street vibes with studio quality. The tape features four artists, each giving the riddim a different flavor. Buddy steps out with “Pork,” a song that quickly became a favorite at late-night dances. Kennedy’s “She Dor Workin’” brought a catchy hook that selectors couldn’t get enough of. Kt, who is known for collaborations with other rising stars, dropped “Xmas Come Back Again,” adding a festive touch to the riddim. Finally, Shotta’s “Yuh Getting Horn” brought a gritty edge, rounding out the tape’s sound. This yard session tape was everywhere in 2011, from sound system clashes to roadside parties. It’s a true piece of dancehall history.
