Chillspot Strings Riddim sits a little differently from some of Chillspot Records’ later, more hard-knocking Zimdancehall work: this one leans into a cleaner, string-led pulse that gives the cuts a brighter, more melodic edge. The lineup is packed with Zimbabwean voices, and the sharper turns come from artists like Soul Jah Love, Hwindi President and Ras Caleb, who all use the framework in different ways — one pushing urgency, another riding the groove more laid-back, another leaning into rallying one-liners — while the production keeps a brisk 100-bpm dancehall swing underneath. Released in 2016, the set runs long enough to feel like a proper showcase without getting bloated, and it closes with Spider Man’s “Dis Muzik Ting” after moving through 13 tracks in all.
