Kingsound Productions takes a cooler, more restrained tack here than the usual full-tilt bashment barrage, but the mood is still pure dancehall: lean drums, pocket-sized hooks and a pressure that stays low but never falls flat. Released in 2016, Chill Pill Riddim runs seven cuts from six artists, with Kardi Tivali doubling up on “Action Wid It” in both clean and explicit versions, which tells you this one was pitched for radio as well as the raw side of the dance. Andre Branxx’s “Special To Me” and Polydan’s “R. I. P” help widen the tone, while Haimerej and El Vynom keep the conversational, everyday feel moving. The sequencing makes sense too: the cleaner take lands before the explicit one, and the set closes with a final lone vocal rather than a big group handoff.
