By 2015, dancehall was full of lean digital rhythms that left plenty of room for melody and attitude, and Cardinal Point Riddim sits right in that pocket with LMR Pro Productions steering the whole thing from New York. Spragga Benz’s “Take A Look” gives the set an immediate veteran pull, while Mega Banton’s “Wi Nuh Tek Style” keeps the tempo sharp and the delivery rough enough to cut through the clean-radio versions that sit beside the raw cuts. Erup’s title tune is the obvious center of gravity, but Chris Matic’s “Never Change” and Bittah So Sicka’s “Want Money” help widen the mood without breaking the tight, mid-length ride. Lala Reynolds, the man behind LMR Pro, was already talking about a less typical, more carefully worked approach to production around the time this project landed in September 2015.
