BULLY BEEF RIDDIM produced by DIGITAL B 1991
Bully Beef Overview
In the early 1990s, dancehall music was changing fast. The sound of the “yard beat” was raw and full of energy. In 1991, studios in Jamaica were pushing out powerful riddims that made people move. One of the most important producers of this time was DIGITAL B. He started his own label, Digital B Records, in 1987. DIGITAL B became known for shaping the new digital dancehall sound and working with many top artists. The Bully Beef Riddim is a strong example of this era’s creativity. On this riddim, Admiral Bailey brought his popular style with the song “A No Sin.” Admiral Bailey was already famous for hits like “Big Belly Man” and was a key voice in dancehall. Dirtsman, who is remembered for his classic “Hot This Year,” delivered “Steer Dem” with his unique flow. General T.K added “No Special Man,” showing his skill and confidence. Ninjaman, known for his energetic performances and sometimes controversial lyrics, contributed “Run Taxi.” Papa San, who later became well-known for his move to gospel music, performed “Down Ina Iraq.” Each artist gave the riddim a fresh energy, helping it stand out in a busy year for dancehall. The Bully Beef Riddim showed the strength of yard studios in 1991. With DIGITAL B’s production and these talented artists, it became a standout bashment release. The riddim’s lasting impact proves how powerful that raw dancehall sound was in the early ‘90s.
