Coxsone Dodd, Geoffrey Chung and Ossie Harvey produced Breakfast In Bed for Studio One’s Blue Mountain imprint in 1970, and the riddim is best remembered through Hortense Ellis and Alton Ellis’s original Breakfast In Bed cut, plus later takes by Joe White, Lorna Bennett and Scotty with Lorna Bennett. The 1972 Lorna Bennett version became the name most people associate with the tune, but the set still carries the smooth, late-rocksteady-to-early-reggae feel that made Studio One such a durable force in Jamaican music. With just four cuts, it keeps the focus on melody, harmony and that laid-back swing the label handled so well in this era.
