Brandy Riddim – Blazer International 1996
Brandy Overview
In the heart of Kingston’s dancehall scene in 1996, a new sound system tape was born. The journey started at the studio, where the studio hand worked late hours, making sure every detail of the riddim was perfect. The producer, whose name was known to the regulars in the yard, kept a close watch over the mixing board, guiding the energy of the session. The first cut was Brandy — Instrumental. This track set the foundation for the whole tape, with its steady groove and catchy melody. DJs loved to ride the rhythm, using it to warm up the crowd. Soon after, Chuck Fender & Pinchers stepped in with Champion Sound. Chuck Fender, who would later be known for powerful songs like “Gash Dem,” teamed up with the veteran Pinchers, famous for his hit “Bandelero.” Their combination brought real excitement to the session. Galaxy P followed with Girls Dj, adding his unique voice and playful lyrics. Hawkeye, known for his witty style, delivered Hawk Up Yuh Meat, which quickly became a crowd favorite. Powerman closed out the session with Pop It Off, bringing his energetic delivery to the tape. This sound system cut became a classic of 1996. DJs across Jamaica used it to spark up yard sessions, and the tracks still bring back memories of that golden dancehall era.
