BOXING RIDDIM produced by KINGSTON SOUNDS 1999
Boxing Overview
In 1999, a roots reggae project called Boxing Riddim appeared, bringing together classic and modern voices in Jamaican music. The riddim was produced by KINGSTON SOUNDS, a label known for sharing vintage reggae sounds and reissuing legendary tracks from the golden age of the genre. The project featured respected artists. Cornell Campbell, a singer famous for his hit “Stars” and his work with Studio One, appears twice: first with Lady Saw on “Boxing,” and again solo with his own version called “Boxing.” Lady Saw, known as the “Queen of Dancehall,” adds her powerful voice alongside Campbell, giving the track a unique blend of roots and dancehall energy. Glen Washington, who found success in the late 1990s with songs like “Kindness for Weakness,” delivers “Holding On To Love.” Horace Andy, recognized for his classic “Skylarking” and collaborations with Massive Attack, contributes “Never Give Up.” Johnny Clarke, another roots reggae legend, is present with “I Dont Feel Like Talking.” KINGSTON SOUNDS, the producer, is respected for keeping the reggae tradition alive and making classic riddims available to new listeners around the world. Even today, fans remember the Boxing Riddim for its strong roots sound and the way it connects modern tracks to reggae’s foundation. The project stands as a reminder of reggae’s timeless appeal.
