Bornso Riddim – Bonso Records / Moda Ltd

Bonso Records and Moda Ltd kept this one tight in 2008, with just five cuts and no wasted space, so the riddim gets to do the talking quickly. The lineup leans straight dancehall, but it’s got a little extra lift from Beenie Man and Sexy P on “Gimmi Likkle (Remix), ” which sets the tone before Determine, Lexxus and Nitty Kutchie each take a pass at the pattern. There’s a familiar early-2000s club pressure here, the kind of bare-bones swing that leaves room for the vocals to cut through cleanly, and Sexy P turns up twice, including the closing “Moses Moses, ” which lands the strongest fingerprint on the set.
