Bobo Ting Riddim – Island Life Records

Island Life Records had a sharp little moment with Bobo Ting, a 2011 dancehall set cut in Kingston at Mixing Lab and driven by Purplehazz and Roy Francis behind the boards. The rhythm has that tough, mid-tempo stomp that leaves room for voiced hooks to breathe, and Luciano’s “Don’t Panic” sits especially nicely in the pocket, all calm authority against the hard-edged swing. Anthony B’s “High Grade” and Capleton’s “I See Them” push the energy up, while Lutan Fyah keeps the conscious strain running through “Never Leave Us Alone. ” There’s even a version tucked at the end, which gives the whole thing a proper riddim-session feel, almost like an afterthought but one that rounds it off neatly.
