BLACK STALLION RIDDIM produced by JAMMY’S 1997
Black Stallion Overview
Back in 1997, street dances in Jamaica were full of energy and excitement. The Black Stallion Riddim was a big part of that scene. People would gather outside, and selectors would play this riddim loud, making everyone dance. The sound was fresh, but it also gave a nod to the classic dancehall style. The arrangement on the Black Stallion Riddim was done in a bashment style, which means it was made for parties and dancefloors. The beats were strong and the melodies catchy, so dancers could not stand still. Selectors from those days still talk about how this mix stood out in 1997. JAMMY'S, the producer, was already a big name in reggae and dancehall. King Jammy, the founder of JAMMY'S, helped shape digital dancehall in the 1980s with the famous "Sleng Teng" riddim. His label is known for bringing out many hits and for working with top artists over the years. On this riddim, Angel Doolas gave us "90's Kind Of World," showing his talent as a dancehall singer. Marcia Higgs, who is known for her work with Beres Hammond and her song "Female Entertainement," brought a strong female voice. Rosie delivered "Think Twice," adding her own style to the mix. Each artist brought something special, making the Black Stallion Riddim a favorite for dancehall fans.
