Issued in 1971 and produced by Rupie Edwards, Black And White Riddim pairs Dennis Alcapone and John Holt on Togetherness with Gregory Isaacs and Greyhound tackling Black And White, giving the set a strong early roots-reggae feel. The Greyhound version is the best-known cut here, while Gregory Isaacs’ take adds another key vocal version to the riddim’s small but memorable line-up. Rupie Edwards was already an important Jamaican producer by this point, and this release reflects the kind of multi-artist session work that helped define his catalogue in the early 1970s.
