Big Car Riddim dates from 1978 and comes from Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One camp, with Jackie Mittoo front and center on the instrumental cuts and Ernest Ranglin joining on the title track and version. The selection is short but well balanced, moving from the two-part Jackie Mittoo opens into the fuller Big Car side and closing with Sugar Minott’s Love And Understanding, which brings a vocal finish to the set. With Sound Dimension in the mix on the version, it also carries that classic Studio One band feel that links the late-’70s update to the label’s earlier foundation sound.
