Bedspread Riddim – Various Artists

Bedspread Riddim comes off like a lean 2003 dancehall cut with a wiry, no-frills pulse, the kind of one-drop-free juggling that leaves plenty of room for deejays to work the groove. Riff Raff’s “Wrong Man” and Skinny’s two-part “Counteract” feel especially connected to the rhythm, with the latter stretching the vibe across back-to-back versions rather than forcing a new angle. Sargeant Bread’s “Lef Dat To Me” and Six’s “Rain” keep the set moving with that early-2000s street-level chatter, while the bare “Bedspread” version closes things out like a quick rewind for the selectors. It’s a small six-track release, but that spare lineup gives the riddim its own compact little footprint.
