Bed Spring Riddim – Young Blood Records

Young Blood Records came through in 2018 with Bed Spring Riddim, a dancehall juggling that gathers streetwise singjay energy, sly badness talk and a fair bit of bedroom chatter around one slippery, bass-heavy groove. The rhythm has that late-2010s dancehall snap: sharp drums, an easy bounce, and enough room for the artists to work both melody and patois-heavy chat without overcrowding the pocket.

Mr. G opens the set with the title cut, and his presence gives the riddim a familiar, playful foundation. Beenie Man’s “No Mistake” adds veteran weight, while Christopher Martin’s “Friends” brings a smoother, melodic contrast that sits nicely against the rougher voices. Shenseea’s “So Mi Small” is one of the cuts that helped push her rise in that period, with her confident delivery cutting through the mix. Shane O turns up twice, including “Galist Time” and “Do The Time, ” which fits his knack for raw, character-driven dancehall. Kalado’s “Nuff Gal, ” Lanz’s “Pretty Fuck, ” and Xklusiv’s “Good Hole Gal” keep the riddim firmly in party-and-relationship territory, while Ghost’s “Take Your Time” and D Major’s “Let Me” tilt the vibe toward flirtation rather than straight-up slackness.

Young Blood Records had already established itself as a steady dancehall outfit by then, and Bed Spring sits in that run of riddims aimed squarely at selectors and radio rotations. The instrumental version also matters here, because the groove is strong enough to carry multiple combinations without losing momentum.
