Beating Stick Riddim – Markus Records

Out of the 2011 dancehall wave, Beating Stick Riddim lands with that sharp, percussive energy that suited the era’s tougher club sound, and Markus Records gave it a compact eight-track run anchored by Blak Ryno’s “Gaza Beating Stick” and Kiprich’s “Right Now. ” The lineup keeps the focus on direct, street-facing cuts: DJ Sunshine comes in with the blunt-edged “Badness, ” Humble Lion leans into the chatty tension of “All Dem a Chat, ” and Kaliba gets two turns, including the explicit “Claut and Beat” and the cleaner “Talk an Dweet. ” Markus Myrie, then a young producer launching his own label, handled the riddim and the instrumental version, and the whole set sits right in that early-2010s moment when dancehall was leaning hard into lean, bass-heavy riddims made for sound systems and quick-fire vocal cuts.
