Babashop Riddim – Gaga Productions

Babashop rides a lean, uptempo dancehall groove that feels geared for the street first and the radio second, with sharp little pockets for deejays to cut through. Gaga Productions, a Toronto-based outfit launched by Waterhouse deejay Alty B, put the riddim out in 2016 and loaded it with a mixed bag of voices, from name-brand energy to fresher cuts. Wayne J’s “Superstar, ” Razor B’s “Gal A Bawl Out, ” and Devin Di Dakta’s “She Tell Me” keep the project in that modern party-dancehall zone, while Delly Ranx, Ffrench, and Cubanis give it extra range without breaking the flow. The title tune gets a proper sting from Poetry, but Alty B’s “Gal Clown” and Wayne J’s “Superstar” are the cuts that leave the strongest imprint.
