Autotune Riddim – Various Artists

Autotune Riddim lands in that mid-2000s moment when dancehall was leaning hard into glossy vocal effects and big, club-ready hooks, but this set still keeps the pulse firm underneath all the pitch-shifted shine. The cuts are short and direct, with Randy’s “In The Club, ” Fojo’s “Drinks Up” in both clean and raw versions, and Avalanche’s “Ride Wit Me” giving the riddim its clearest hooks; even the title makes the effect part of the identity rather than just a studio trick. There’s a nice bit of variety in the lineup too, from Xcellent’s tougher “Dirty” to Timezone’s smoother “Girl Of Mine, ” and the project closes with the instrumental, which leaves the melody and drum pattern hanging in the air just long enough to underline how much the riddim does the heavy lifting.
