Atari Riddim – Young Lion Records

Lady Keyz sets the tone on Atari Riddim, with “Wa Do Dem” giving the Young Lion Records cut its sharpest edge before Showtyme Soeasy takes over with “One Night” and the sly, almost cheeky “Artiste Tax. ” Released in 2012, the juggling is compact — just seven tracks from four voices — but that lean setup works in its favor, especially with the edit/raw doubles on both Lady Keyz and Showtyme Soeasy keeping the riddim in motion. Daddy P’s “Bbm” and Richee Ree’s “So Fine” add a couple more angles, though this one really leans on the energy of its two main contributors. Compared with other Young Lion work around that period, Atari has a cleaner, more street-ready bounce than a lot of the label’s busier dancehall setups, which is part of why it sits neatly inside their early-2010s catalogue.
