Already the Homicide One Riddim leans hard into raw, chest-rattling dancehall, the kind of juggling where the bass does most of the talking and the chants come in sharp, urgent bursts. Tube Univers Productions lined up a deep field of voices for the 2016 set, and the energy stays rough around the edges in a good way, with cuts like Takana Zion’s “E-Bombo, ” Singleton’s “Flow Bazoka, ” and Lion Baryton’s “Box” giving it the biggest hit of pressure. There’s enough variety in the patois-heavy performances to keep the riddim from feeling repetitive, but it never loses that tense, street-level feel. By the time it rolls into “Tombolia Foté – Dancehall Papa, ” the project has made its point: this one is all about force, attitude, and a riddim that sounds built for sound system punishment.
