World Go Round Riddim – Cousin Records

Chugging bass and a loose, airy one-drop feel give World Go Round Riddim a warm early-2000s glow, the kind of groove that leaves plenty of space for the singers to lean into the melody. Cousin Records kept it lean with just two cuts, and that sparseness works in its favor: Al Campbell’s “Two Timer” brings the seasoned, steady-eyed delivery you’d expect from him, while Freddie McGregor’s “Love Makes The World Go Round” carries the sweeter, hookier side of the set. It’s a small but nicely judged 2002 reggae release, right in that period when producers were still making compact vocal riddims that favored strong songs over big guest lists, and this one does exactly that.
