The Whistle Riddim comes off as a bright, whistle-hooked soca set with a Carnival-ready bounce, the kind of rhythm built to make room for big hooks and easy crowd reaction. Fox Fuse lines up Machel Montano’s “Gyal Wuk, ” Patrice Roberts’ “De Man Dem Darling, ” and Skinny Fabulous’ “Pelt” at the top of the bill, and that trio gives the project its star power without crowding out the younger voices around them. Swappi and Wildfire each return with “Marlicqua” and “Kettle, ” which keeps the riddim moving in a tight loop and gives the package a familiar, road-march feel. It’s a compact seven-track run, and ending on the repeated Swappi and Wildfire cuts leaves the whistle motif ringing through the whole thing.
