The Sweetest Christmas Riddim – Trinidad Tunes

Back in 2008, when Trinidad Christmas soca was leaning hard into parang flavor and party-ready hooks, Trinidad Tunes came through with a riddim that feels tuned for lime season more than the dancefloor alone. The Sweetest Christmas Riddim keeps its footing in bright, percussive soca, but there’s a festive island swing to it, with Baron and H2O Phlo opening on “De Sweetest Christmas Lime, ” Olatunji pushing “Tight” with extra bounce, and Denise Belfon and the Family bringing a more rooted, backyard-Christmas feel on “Mandolin Fiesta. ” Nicole De Coteau’s “Trini Christmas” and Ziggy Rankin’s “Woman For Christmas” keep the theme locked in, while Rembunction’s “Baila La Parang” leans into the season’s parang pull. The instrumental, “De Sweetest Christmas Riddum, ” closes it out cleanly and leaves the groove to do the talking.
