Out of Jamaica’s 2016 juggling crop, Tep Inna Dem Head Riddim comes off like a hard, street-level set from More Steppa Production, seven cuts deep and all business. The riddim’s pull is in the lineup: Fully Bad’s “Dark Line” sits right in the middle of the tracklist with the kind of rough-edged energy that matches the title, while Honormosity’s “Gun Factory” and Kurry Stain’s “Mad Mad Step” keep the pressure up without straying far from the same militant pulse. Dre Blunt opens with “Dear Jamaica, ” which gives the project a slightly different angle before the heavier tunes take over. Released in 2016, it’s a compact piece of dancehall from a producer who clearly knew how to keep the speakers rattling, and even the names alone do some of the talking.
