Swing Heavy Riddim came out in 2014 from Itation Records and Bizzarri Records, a pairing that fit the moment well: Itation had already moved from sound system roots into label work, while Leo Bizzarri’s camp had become known for modern roots and dancehall production with a strong European base. The rhythm itself sits in that sweet spot between rootsy forward motion and dancehall pressure, with a springy groove, heavy bassline and a lively bounce that gives the singers room to ride it without sounding rushed.

The sharpest cut is the opener, Jah Sun and Kabaka Pyramid’s “Foundation, ” which gives the riddim its clearest statement of purpose: a conscious anthem from two artists who were both building serious reputations in the early 2010s. Lutan Fyah’s “My Sound” pushes the roots side harder, while Turbulence brings the militant edge on “Love My Enemy. ” Delly Ranx’s “Put The Gun Away” adds a more direct dancehall warning, and Skarra Mucci with Teacha Dee turn “Forward Inna Di Dance” into the kind of crowd-moving selection that gives the riddim real juggling value.
