Wayne Wonder – Right Here

“Right Here” puts Wayne Wonder back in the territory where his voice has always carried particular weight: close-up, melodic dancehall shaped by the instincts of a proper songwriter. The title reads as a statement of presence, fitting a singer whose strongest records make romance feel conversational rather than overplayed—addressing one person directly, with melody doing as much of the speaking as the words.

Wonder’s sound was formed in the pressure of Kingston’s 1990s studio culture. His time around Penthouse and later Madhouse placed him among dancehall’s most important producers and deejays, but he held a different space in that company: a singer with an R and B-informed touch, clear tenor phrasing and a feel for chord movement. “Saddest Day, ” “Movie Star” and “Bonafide Love” established that balance early, while “No Letting Go” took it far beyond Jamaica without losing its Jamaican pulse.

That history matters here. Wonder is not a vocalist who needs to force a lyric or bury a tune beneath vocal gymnastics.
