Skinny Fabulous – Mek It Bounce

“Mek It Bounce” reads as a direct instruction, and Skinny Fabulous has long made that kind of command feel natural. The Vincentian singer’s stock in trade is force: a deep baritone, deejay-minded phrasing and the hard push of dancehall in a soca frame. With Black Shadow and Troyton Rami alongside him, he is working in a Jamaican-Caribbean meeting point that suits those instincts.

Skinny’s approach was shaped in Kingston, where he first pursued dancehall before returning to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and folding that discipline into soca. The result was never simply a change of tempo. His vocal attack carries the clipped authority and rough edge of a dancehall deejay, while his biggest carnival records have demanded the broad physical response of the road. “Head Bad” announced that combination early; “Famalay, ” with Bunji Garlin and Machel Montano, took it across the region and into Trinidad’s 2019 Road March history.

That background gives “Mek It Bounce” its useful frame. Skinny Fabulous is not a singer who has to manufacture urgency through vocal polish or a sentimental hook.
