Raiders Of The Lost Dub – Island Records

Island’s Raiders of the Lost Dub sits a little apart from the label’s better-known roots sets, because this one leans fully into the dub-room mindset: a 1981 various-artists compilation lined with Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Ijahman, Junior Delgado, The Paragons, The Viceroys and Wailing Souls. The tracks play like stripped-down, echo-heavy versions of their original songs, with the bass pushed right up front, drums kept taut, and the mix treating space like part of the arrangement. Black Uhuru’s “Convoy Hijack” and “Fire And Brimstone” anchor the set early, while Junior Delgado’s “Bazooka Blast” and Burning Spear’s “Pit Of Snakes” keep the mood tense and weighty.
