2016 was a big year for soca riddims leaning harder into live instrumentation and carnival polish, and Platinum Strings lands right in that pocket with Millbeatz steering a bright, string-led groove that feels more orchestral than bare-bones. The arrangement has that glossy Trinidad energy, all propulsive drums, lifted melodies and a sweeping, almost ballroom-fete edge, which gives the vocal cuts room to move without losing momentum. 5Star Akil’s “True Feter” keeps the party spirit front and center, Skinny Fabulous turns “Mash Up and Flat” into the obvious punchline-heavy highlight, and Denice Millien’s “Give Yuh Melodies” leans into the sweeter side of the riddim. With M1 and Alternative Quarter rounding things out, the project closes on the instrumental, where the string pattern does most of the talking.
