Low-slung digital dancehall with a raw, street-corner edge runs through Picollo Riddim, and the first names on it tell you pretty quickly where the energy lives: Admiral T barking out “Burn P? dophil, ” Krys snapping into “Badman A Badman, ” and Saik cutting through with “Bomboklat. ” The line between the producer tag and the artists feels especially tight here, because this is the kind of early-2000s French-Caribbean dancehall session that thrives on attitude as much as melody, with the voices riding the beat like they’re trying to outpace it. There’s a nice spread across the cast, from Little Espion’s “Dancehall Thing” to Demsy and Gandhi, but the sharpest pull comes from the harder tunes. 2004 had plenty of riddims like this, yet Picollo keeps its grin-and-grit tension intact, right down to the rough-edged title cuts.
