After such a long time Vybz Kartel and Popcaan collaborated once more on their latest track Dull Colour. It is arguable who the biggest artist is presently, however, Popcaan has turned into Kartel’s biggest student following the days of Clarks. After being catapulted onto the dancehall scene from the success of Kartel’s Clarks, Popcaan has gone on to become a superstar in the genre with numerous hit songs. Enjoying the success of his latest album Great Is He, Andre Sutherland affectionately known as Popcaan is dominating the space and we can all agree that he sits on the dancehall roundtable as one of the greats.
Dull Colour showcases the artists’ lyrical prowess as they go back and forth in a deep exchange. Not your typical club banger, Dull Colour feels like a prelude to something much bigger.
If you thought there was animosity between the pair it may not hold water following their collaboration and the fact that Popcaan has reached out to Vybz with well wishes throughout his incarceration.
The Portmore Empire received good news this week when a provisional date was set for Vybz Kartel and co-appellants to be heard by the United Kingdom Privy Council. The convicts will seek to overthrow or lessen their life sentences when they appeal their case at the Privy Council in the United Kingdom. According to Bert Samuels, the attorney for Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, the UK court has set tentative dates of April 16 through 18 in 2024 to hear the main arguments in the quartet’s appeal.
Almost a year away, we may as well continue with our lives and enjoy the music Vybz continues to deliver. Look out for Dull Colour as it starts its rounds and we can also reminisce about Clarkes and Mind Dutty.
