Dancehall’s Shenseea is set to make her debut at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April representing reggae and dancehall, along with Stick Figure and Rebelution. The event will be held at the Emporio Polo Club in Indio, California. Coachella has proven to be a huge platform to increase one’s fanbase in the United States, having invited other top reggae artists like Koffee, Protoje, and Chronixx.
Promoters of the event, Goldenvoice and AEG have set the festivities for the weekends of 14-16 April and 21-23 April 2023. The reggae contingent is invited along with a host of other musicians including Burna Boy, the Kid Laroi, Bjork, Gorillaz, and Idris Elba just to mention a few.
From her debut track Jiggle Jiggle in 2016 and Loodi, Shenseea has become a household name in the industry and her Coachella debut has been coming for a couple of years now. In addition, Shenseea has also been nominated for Outstanding International Song at the 54th NAACP Image Awards, for her collaboration on Diana. The diverse collaboration includes Nigeria’s Fireboy DML and American RnB star Chris Brown. Other nominees include;
– Bad To Me by Wizkid (RCA Records/Starboy/Sony Music International),
– Last Last by Burna Boy (Atlantic Records),
– No Woman No Cry by Tems (Def Jam Recordings),
– Stand Strong by Davido featuring Sunday Service Choir (RCA Records/Sony Music UK).
Diana[/embed] produced by Phantom was released off Fireboy DML’s album Playboy in 2022 and has every chance of winning the award. The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) hosts the award show and recognizes exceptional performances in various forms including film, theatre, music, and literature.
As evidenced above Shenseea is setting the pace for female artists in the Caribbean and one could argue she is in the same boat as Popcaan, being head and shoulders above the rest. With a successful debut album in 2022, ALPHA, Shenseea continues to shine and this makes for a good start to 2023 for her.
