Attention turns to Marshal Neeko’s City Lock Riddim. The dancehall riddim features dancehall heavyweights including Capleton and Sizzla as well as Mykal Rose and Everton Chambers. With Capleton on the title track, the veteran sets the tone on the riddim as he is able to deliver his usual sound.
With other reggae greats like Beenie Man, Buju Banton, and Richie Spice releasing albums this year, both Sizzla and Capleton are due an album despite having 40 albums between them. In the twilight of their careers, the pair are still able to mix it up with the best of them showcased in City Lock Riddim.
Dancehall fans should gravitate to the riddim as the artists sing about relevant issues and not just about blowing money and hooking up with numerous women. I am sure this is what the genre was all about once upon a time as reggae’s sub-genre was born. Roll back the years with Marshal Neeko’s riddim. City Lock Riddim is one for the purists and deserves a listen.
