Dancehall’s Masicka is back on the scene with a brand new track titled Tyrant. The Portmore native, whose real name is Javaun Fearon, enjoyed probably his best year in 2022, is back on the scene in 2023 following his track Pieces with Jahshii. With a vibrant official video already doing the rounds on Youtube, Masicka is pictured living his best life with you guessed it, a bevvy of babes.
Masicka’s new partnership with Def Jam has seen a slow output of tracks presently, but one can assume his effort is going towards another album of which he is due. Masicka enjoyed much success in 2022 with the release of his maiden album 438 in late 2021. With tracks like Moments, Pain, They Don’t Know and Suicide Note the album made noise on the dancehall scene peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Reggae Chart. We have high expectations for his ‘upcoming’ project, in spite of having signed to a new record label in Def Jam.
It’s worth mentioning other recent releases which may put Masicka’s Tyrant into perspective. Valiant dropped a collaboration with British hip-hop group NSG called Sainty. With similar lyrical prowess, the track compares with Masicka’s and is worth mentioning granted it was released in the same time period.
Valiant’s second collaboration with Vybz Kartel also represents a gritty song in the same league titled Stay Clean recently released. In the premier league of dancehall, this is the standard Masicka is maintaining as he is a marquee player in the game. We cannot outright say that he is in the top 10 of artists presently, but it just takes three or four-bangers to earn a cap. We definitely look forward to more work from Masicka. Let’s hope for a strong push in the second half of the year.
