US reggae fans have something to cheer about following the eminent release of a Cali Roots/Ineffable Records partnership riddim release. The riddim titled Cali Roots has an official release date of May 22. However, singles will be released every Friday starting on the 27th of March. Collie Buddz, the riddim’s marquee artist kicked things off with Hold Firm. Followed by The Movement’s track Alien dropped on April 3. Anthony B is poised to release his version this coming Friday 10 April. The rhythm is poised to have 21 unheard tracks from the California roots scene along with a few Jamaican artists including Yellowman and Jesse Royal.
The riddim was co-produced by Collie Buddz and American producer/multi-instrumentalist Johnny Cosmic.
Promoters of the California Roots Music and Arts Festival have been forced to change the festival dates because of the coronavirus pandemic. The event had initially been set for May 22-24 but has now been moved to October 9-11 later this year. The line-up remains the same along with the intended Monterey County Fair venue. Sean Paul, Chronixx and Damien Marley have been penned into the concert along with a host of other top deejays.
The Bermudian Collie Buddz shines on his riddim with his usual style. And kicked off what could be a memorable riddim for the year. Collie had a good 2019 with the release of his album Hybrid and has had to stop touring due to the pandemic. Collie Buddz is best known for tracks like Come Around and Playback which put him on the Jamaican radar back in the 2000s. His fanbase has steadily risen in Jamaica. And this riddim will go a long way in cementing his place in reggae’s history books.
Have a listen to the available tracks on the riddim. In addition be sure to set a reminder for each Friday until 22Â May.
