The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards nominations were recently released. The ceremony is scheduled for January 26, 2020 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and will be hosted by Alicia Keys.

Mikayla Simpson, also known as Koffee made history in becoming the youngest solo reggae artist to get a nomination for Best Reggae Album. She achieved this feat with her debut album ‘Rapture’ which has seen her rise to stardom in the past 12 months. The album includes hit songs including, Toast, Burning and Rapture.

19-year-old Koffee is among the nomination list for Best Reggae Album at the 2020 Grammys alongside other reggae acts including Julian Marley’s As I Am , Sly & Robbie & Roots Radics’ The Final Battle: Sly & Robbie vs Roots Radics, Steel Pulse’s Mass Manipulation and More Work to be Done by Third World.

The award show recognizes the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, running from October 1, 2018, to August 31, 2019.

Unfortunately[/embed] for dancehall fans there is no dancehall category. Heavily American-centric it is understandable why this category is not included. However, it would be very interesting if there was this category and who would fit in. The only other sections where a dancehall album could have featured may have been the World Music and Rap categories which included;

Best World Music Album

For albums containing at least 51% playing time of new vocal or instrumental World Music recordings.

GECE – Altin Gün
WHAT HEAT – Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley
AFRICAN GIANT – Burna Boy
FANM D’AYITI – Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet
CELIA – Angelique Kidjo

Best Rap/Sung Performance

For a solo or collaborative performance containing both elements of R&B melodies and Rap.

HIGHER – DJ Khaled Featuring Nipsey Hussle & John Legend
DRIP TOO HARD – Lil Baby & Gunna
PANINI – Lil Nas X
BALLIN – Mustard Featuring Roddy Ricch
THE LONDON – Young Thug Featuring J. Cole & Travis Scott

Congratulations to all the nominated artists from all categories and we look forward to January 26 2020.
