kabaka pyramid wins best reggae album at grammy's

Disputes among reggae fans can finally be settled now following Kabaka Pyramid’s win at the Grammy’s last night (5th February). Keron Salmon popularly known as Kabaka Pyramid won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album at the 65th annual Grammy Awards. Kabaka beat off the likes of fellow Jamaicans in Sean Paul, Koffee, Shaggy and Protoje. Kabaka Pyramid got the nod for his debut studio album titled The Kalling.

The Kalling features 15 tracks with popular singles which include Grateful, Red Gold and Green, Faded Away and the title track The Kalling. Released on the 30th of September 2022, the album was produced by Damian Jr Gong Marley.

Kabaka devoted the win to his mother, his team, and the late Joe Mersa Marley. Showing off his love for his team Kabaka had some kind words before the ceremony saluting his comrades and their contribution.

“It was all a dream. Regardless of the ‘winner’ today I feel blessed knowing I have my bredda dem from 1st form at Campion wid me. 26 years of friendship from Bombsquad to Time Bomb Sound to Bebble Team to Bebble Rock Music.

“We neva took the easy road, we neva looked for favors or links, we jus figured dis ting out with intelligence and hard/smart work. Maybe many neva believed in us but we trusted the process and used our strengths and improved on our weaknesses. Whatever you see of me its because of us here first and foremost. Give thankhs fi life, teamwork mek di dream work.”

In such a tight contest Kabaka is a deserved winner and I hope he continues to thrive in the reggae space. With the other nominees having won the award before in previous years, it was only fair for the award to go to Kabaka.  Onwards and upwards Kabaka Pyramid. We salute you and look forward to your next piece of work.
