I went searching for treasure and came out with a gem in Shuga. Born in Bogue Montego Bay, Jamaica, Mitsy Campbell is best known as Shuga. With a captivating newrootz reggae voice, Shuga is an established reggae artist holding her own in a male-dominated space.
She burst onto the scene in 2009 after winning Jamaica’s national TV program, Jamaica Digicel Rising Stars in 2009. Inspired by mentor Tanya Stephens, Shuga went from providing backup vocals to recording her own music and seems to be holding her own. She represents women for sure and always looks to shed light on social issues involving the plight of women globally. Advocating for equal rights in the industry, she has hit songs that will move any real reggae fan and her music does speak for itself.
