Beenie Man is back on the scene with his seventeenth studio album titled Simma, released on 31 August 2023. Simma was originally slated for release in 2020. However, due to the passing of Beenie Man’s mother Lilieth Sewell, the artist pushed the release date.
“Between the whole making of the album, mi madda drop out…mi live ah country fi ‘bout two years. Mi couldn’t even come home; mi couldn’t even gah studio fi voice di nex’ song,” he revealed.
“This is why di album neva release at dat time when di album did suppose to release. But, now we’re here and we’re strong and we’re firm. We’re here because mi madda still deh here inna mi heart and she still deh here inna mi mind.”
That said, the album is poised to be a banger for dancehall fans. It has been a while since we enjoyed a studio album from the former King of Dancehall with his last album Undisputed in 2006. With an impressive discography, Beenie Man was definitely due a studio album and this one should go a long way. A Grammy nomination perhaps. But that is a discussion for another time. Roll back the years with Beenie Man once again and let us see how far the album goes.
